Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is a leading not-for-profit supporting older people to live well at home. We’re looking for compassionate and experienced Dementia Respite Assistants to join our team at our Arundel respite centre, and out in the community in the surrounding suburbs.

About the Role
This is a hands-on role where no two days are the same. You’ll support clients in a centre-based respite setting—building genuine connections, encouraging participation, and helping create meaningful, enjoyable days. If you love working with people and want a role where you can truly make an impact, this is for you. You will have the added opportunity of enabling clients to stay living in their own homes, maintaining their independence and wellbeing, while also remaining engaged in the community.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting frail aged clients and people living with dementia in a welcoming, engaging environment
  • Providing centre-based respite care
  • Building strong, trusting relationships with clients and their families
  • Encouraging independence and participation in meaningful activities
  • Working alongside a supportive team to help every client have a “good day”
  • Provide personal care and daily living support
  • Assist with social support and community access
  • Prepare meals and provide light domestic assistance
  • Maintain clear communication and accurate documentation

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience supporting older people and those living with dementia (community, respite, or residential)
  • Certificate III in Aged Care, Individual Support, or similar
  • Strong communication skills and a kind, patient approach
  • Current First Aid & CPR
  • Driver’s Licence
  • A genuine passion for person-centred care

Availability

Our centres operate Monday to Sunday. Our community access shifts are mostly during the week with no overnights required.
Flexibility to work afternoons, weekends, and occasional overnight shifts will be highly regarded.

Please note:

You will receive the higher rate of the Domestic Respite Assistant even when working in community access shifts, however please be aware that you will be covered under the award that is relevant to the shift you are undertaking.
