Alzheimer’s Queensland (AQ) is a leading not-for-profit supporting older people to live well at home. We’re looking for compassionate and experienced Dementia Respite Assistants to join our team at our Mount Gravatt centre.
About the Role:
This hands-on role focuses on creating meaningful and engaging lifestyle experiences for residents in an aged care setting. You will plan and deliver activities that support physical, social, and cognitive wellbeing, build genuine relationships with residents, and encourage participation using a “do with, not for” approach. Working closely with care and clinical teams, you will help ensure activities align with individual needs while fostering dignity, inclusion, and a strong sense of community.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Plan and deliver meaningful lifestyle activities that support residents’ physical, social, and cognitive wellbeing.
- Build genuine relationships with residents, focusing on dignity, choice, and individual interests.
- Encourage participation using a “do with, not for” approach, including for residents living with dementia.
- Work collaboratively with care, clinical, and lifestyle teams to align activities with care plans.
- Involve families and the local community in events and programs that create connection and purpose.
- Maintain accurate documentation, uphold compliance standards, and contribute to continuous improvement.
What You’ll Bring
- Certificate IV in Diversional Therapy, Leisure and Health, or a related field.
- Experience in residential aged care or similar environments is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster meaningful relationships with residents and families.
- Flexibility to accommodate activities outside of regular hours.
Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to our philosophy of care, a strong understanding of the needs of older adults, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
